As a kid, I visited lots of arcades. Playing classic games like Pac-man, Donkey Kong and Out-Run. Our local mini-arcade even had the hydraulic Space Harrier. I was hooked.
It wasn't until I found M.A.M.E. on the Internet until the possibility to have my own arcade at home started to get stuck in my head. A few years later I found
the Build Your Own Arcade Controls website and my dream was within reach... My very own arcade coin-up at home!
My first cabinet is the 'Caught in the Timezone' cabinet. It is based on the Centipede cabinet dimensions, because I like the general feel of that cabinet - it has a classic shape.
Main cabinet features:
2 8-way joysticks (one per player)
12 action buttons - 6 buttons per player
2 insert coin and 2 start buttons
3.25" trackball
Lighted marquee
21" monitor
1Ghz, 256MB PC
Drawer to hide/access keyboard
wireless network for remote updating
Emulators: MAME and WinUAE
Wood panels are cut and mounted into place
Testfitted the joysticks and buttons in a cardboard panel to check if everything is in the right place before drilling the holes in the wood
Almost done! mounted the light and plexiglass
The painted cabinet is ready for play. A home-made cab is never really finished so improvements are underway for better artwork etc. etc.
